In just their second season the Monarchs win it all. That is a very impressive feat given that neither owner had ever been in a fantasy league prior to joining the Vagrant League in 1997. The Monarchs came out of the draft this year with a solid if unimpressive team but made a series of trades that brought in the likes of Dante Bichette, Chipper Jones, Jeff Bagwell, Tom Glavine and others propelling them to top.

As well as the season ended for the new team all was not bliss for the first half of the season as disagreements arose on player talent and trade offers. There was even talk of splitting up the next year. Due to disagreements on moving Chicago Cubs phenom Kerry Wood, which one of the owners created a shrine to, and other cheap talent the Monarchs were listless in the middle of the pack lacking what they needed for the push to first place. After doing some soul searching they wisely decided that the the time to go for it is now and worry about next year next year.

Once the flurry of trades was complete the Monarchs were off an running, amassing the best pitching with 48 out 55 possible points easily out distancing the the next best pitching staff by 5.5 points and tied for the second best offense with 45.5 points enabling them to take and hold first place for the last 10 weeks of the season.

The pressure is on now to see if they can be competitive next year after moving most of good keepers this year. Will they measure up or be more like the Florida Marlins who went from winning it all to worst in the league the following year. Stay tuned.
