Making it five different winners in five years as the Futurians captured first place. It wasn't as easy for the Futurians as their 11.5 point win makes it look. At the All Star break the Futurians were seesawing between fifth and sixth place and looked stagnant. The wake up call finally came as the players woke up and started producing, increasing in total points 7 straight weeks to move into first place.
Offensively, the Futurians had 7 players in double digits in home runs led by Eric Karros with 32, Ron Gant with 29 and Ryan Klesko with 23. On the speed front, six players had double digits in stolen bases led by Barry Larkin with 51, Bret Butler with 32 and Ron Gant with 23.
The leagues best pitching staff was anchored by Greg Maddux with 19 wins and a stellar 0.81 whip in over 200 innings pitched. The starting staff was ably supported by 14 game winner Pat Rapp and 13 game winner Jeff Fassero. The bullpen was anchored by Randle K. Myers who recorded 38 saves and averaged better than a strikeout per inning.
